I have checked Windows for corrupt system files.Īny suggestions about what else to try? Is anyone aware of recent Windows updates that break FFmpeg? The “Program Files (x86)\FFmpeg for Audacity” folder exists and contains the required files. Audacity continues to say: “FFmpeg Library Version: FFmpeg library not found” and does not report the expected version numbers. Audacity simply has stopped automatically locating FFmpeg and refuses to recognize it when I manually locate it. I have tried using the zip version of FFmpeg for Audacity. I have manually deleted the Audacity folders under \Users\AppData\Roaming\audacity. I have tried reverting to older versions of Audacity (as far back as 2.2.2) with the same results. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Audacity and FFmpeg for Audacity multiple times, with and without using the reset preferences option. I have been successfully using Audacity 2.4.2 with FFmpeg for Audacity 2.2.2 under Windows 10 64-bit for quite some time. What I think “should” happen is:Ī) If FFMpeg is not installed: Give the same error message as now.ī) If FFMpeg IS installed, but the selected file still cannot be imported: Give a different error message along the lines of: “File cannot be imported - The file may be damaged or in an unsupported format”.Hi, when I started Audacity, I received a message something like “FFmpeg library used to be installed but is missing, please try to locate it again.” I have tried to manually locate it, and Audacity defaults to the proper directory, but does not recognize the FFmpeg library. Personally, I think it is a minor “bug” that this error message is sometimes misleading. Unfortunately, Audacity does not check to see if FFmpeg is already installed before sending that message, so you will still see that message any time you try to import a file that Audacity is unable to support, even if you already have FFmpeg installed. This is what the error message is referring to. If an audio file fails to import into “out of the box” Audacity, there’s a very good chance that installing FFmpeg will enable Audacity to successfully import the file. Audacity does not include FFmpeg by default as it may be subject to licensing / copyright / patent issues in some countries. However, Audacity supports FFmpeg, which is able to read and write a huge range of audio formats. Basically that error message is triggered when Audacity is unable to import a file for any reason, and Audacity is guessing that “the reason” is because FFmeg is not installed.Īudacity natively supports many of the most common audio formats, but it is not realistically possible for Audacity to support all audio formats. That error message can be misleading in some cases. ![]() ![]() I am attempting to open an MP4 file and receive the following error message…
